Peeling back the onion, the Bureau said agents cracked a $32 million cheating scandal in Washington DC sending KERRY KHAN to prison for almost 20-years with\u00a014 other federal employees and contractors pleading guilty.\u00a0 Code named, “FIVE ACES,”\u00a0indicating the deck had been\u00a0stacked against legitimate contractors,\u00a0authorities said the 4-year investigation\u00a0uncovered\u00a0the “largest domestic bribery and bid-rigging scheme” known to investigators with the defendants using six different companies\u00a0to perpetrate\u00a0the fraud.\u00a0 Agents said corrupt public officials and area contractors demanded kickbacks<\/em> and paid bribes<\/em> in exchange for securing numerous governments\u00a0contracts.<\/p>\n Serving as a program manager and contracting officer’s technical representative for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, KHAN\u00a0reportedly orchestrated the bribery scheme in 2006 when working with another co-worker named MICHAEL ALEXANDER.\u00a0 Receiving a tip in 2009 area businesses were submitting\u00a0phony references and evaluations, agents soon discovered a network of corrupt contractors paying bribes <\/em>and kickbacks<\/em><\/em>\u00a0using\u00a0“straw subcontractors, bogus invoices and fictitious companies.”<\/p>\n Investigators said KHAN\u00a0pocketed\u00a0more than\u00a0$12 million buying flat screen TVs, computers, luxury watches, airline tickets, accommodations in five-star hotels, high-end liquor and 12\u00a0properties in three states.\u00a0 He also remodeled his house and paid off\u00a0his mortgage and enlisted his son and brother who\u00a0have since pled guilty.<\/p>\n Collecting evidence,\u00a0the investigation involved several different agencies and the FBI using a number of sophisticated\u00a0techniques, including cooperating witnesses wearing electronic devices in order to record and monitor conversations and court-authorized wiretaps to identify and prosecute the defendants.\u00a0 Agents said\u00a0KHAN\u00a0was getting ready to secure a $1 billion contract in exchange for making sizeable\u00a0kickbacks\u00a0when authorities moved in and made arrests.\u00a0 Also pleading guilty, the FBI identified NOVA DATACOM as a co-conspirator–aiding KHAN ET AL in their efforts to defraud the government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Washington DC Peeling back the onion, the Bureau said agents cracked a $32 million cheating scandal in Washington DC sending [Read More »]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[33,54,51,52,55,53],"yoast_head":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
